iPad – Future Success or Failure?

April 3, 2010

Thought I would not comment on iPad’s future because everybody already did it, but just couldn’t resist ;) And today (the official launch date) is my last chance to do so based on pure gut feeling and zero market acceptance data.

So my verdict is… the defendant would be a success. Here are the top 4 reasons why:

  1. Everybody is already commenting on iPad… and most importantly opinions are well polarized and there are people who already love the product.
  2. Tech geeks (like me) say its technology is inferior – no multitasking, no USB, no Flash, no camera, no phone, no full HD playback, no SD slot, no HDMI out, you name it… I remember the same arguments used back in 2007 about iPhone. People (especially in Europe) considered it a joke to launch a high-end smartphone with no 3G… Meanwhile Steve & Co were focused on what (and how easy) users could actually achieve with the technology instead of on the pure tech superiority. The greatest art of product management is to identify the minimal right set of features.
  3. Developers are already porting their apps to iPad… we do, Amazon does. And Apple’s “We have an app for that” strategy definitely works.
  4. Steve JobsSteven Fry put it very well: “And being Apple it [iPad] hasn’t been released without (you can be sure) Steve Jobs being wholly convinced that it was ready. “Not good enough, start again. Not good enough. Not good enough. Not good enough.” How many other CEOs say this until their employees want to murder them? That’s the difference.

Integrating Android within the Home Entertainment Context

April 1, 2010

Yesterday we launched iMediaShare at Android Marketplace. Now we can all easily play phone-stored multimedia at our internet-enabled TV sets, or copy our phone photo albums to PS3.

No computers, no cables, no hassle…

P.S. I recommend Stefan deletes some of the “Las Vegas photos” before accidentally sharing them with the family back home ;)

Personal Multimedia Content – Do We Care About It?

March 30, 2010

The simple answer to this question is: Yes, we do. Why? Why do we care about it? It’s because our personal multimedia is all about our emotions. According to a recent market research made by CEA people take an average of 72 digital photos during their last trip. They do so because they want to memorize their special moments, the places they visited, and the experiences they had to revive their emotions later or share them with their friends and family.

So what do people actually care most about their favorite music, videos or picture of precious moments?

Most people do not know anything about encoders, storage devices or sharing technologies. And they do not need to. They just want them to work. Because what people do care about is choosing and accessing their content anywhere, anytime on any device.

Decrease Churn, Increase Loyalty with Personal Multimedia VAS

If you are a communication service provider looking to increase customer loyalty and decrease churn, iMediaShare Center might be an interesting user-centric VAS to check out.

The service has two characteristics that make it particularly suitable for the job:

  1. The users start storing personal image and video with the operator which makes the relationship operator-subscriber much more personal;
  2. The VAS increases the footprint of the operator to reach to the subscriber’s home WiFi network thus bridging the mobile and home worlds.
