Bezeq DLNA Managed Service – Case Study

OBJECTIVE
Bezeq is Israel’s largest and leading telecommunications group, offering the full range of telecom services – domestic and international, fixed and mobile, Internet, transmission, and more. The large telecom was working on a new high-speed Internet subscription upgrade and needed that magic ingredient that would excite their users about the new product.
SOLUTION
A managed service, branded Bezeq DLNA Media Share, was conceived in a joint effort between Bianor and Bezeq. The service is designed to deliver video content anywhere, anytime, to any screen. It launched March 15th with a nationwide campaign, firmly positioned on three pillar components – faster and cost-effective Internet speed, Samsung Smart TV 6500 2011, and Bezeq DLNA Media Share application powered by iMediaShare technology.
RESULT
Bezeq received a turnkey solution with the project lasting two months from inception to delivery, a smooth integration and Bianor responsible for the complete operation of the service. Shortly after it was launched, it resulted in Bezeq reaching approximately 40% of target. Bezeq will be adding new local content with time, which should see their results improving even further.
DLNA – Consumer Challenges in the Connected Home

The Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) provides a standard the purpose of which is to enable DLNA certified products to be compatible with each other in a home network environment, even if manufactured by different companies. The idea is great and it is supported by all major CE manufacturers, making it ‘the standard of choice’ when it comes to entertainment for the connected home. Its practical application by the manufacturers however will need to mature further if the basic challenges the consumer is facing are to be addressed correctly and if DLNA is to turn from a patchy working solution for the moderately tech-savvy into a widely understood and used facility.
