Bianor recently had the opportunity to work on a couple of indoor location-based navigation projects. Here are some thoughts on indoor navigation services.
Specifics of Indoor LBS
The context in which indoor navigation is used differs from the way we use a map. Searching for a street address or sightseeing location we just need to get there, and have set A and B points. The demands on indoor navigation services are tougher – the user requires information about stores and products to be found inside the building, special happenings or offers etc. The service is similar to an interactive directory and is less like a GPS car system.

Bezeq is Israel’s largest and leading telecommunications group, offering the full range of telecom services – domestic and international, fixed and mobile, Internet, transmission, and more. The large telecom was working on a new high-speed Internet subscription upgrade and needed that magic ingredient that would excite their users about the new product.
A managed service, branded Bezeq DLNA Media Share, was conceived in a joint effort between Bianor and Bezeq. The service is designed to deliver video content anywhere, anytime, to any screen. It launched March 15th with a nationwide campaign, firmly positioned on three pillar components – faster and cost-effective Internet speed, Samsung Smart TV 6500 2011, and Bezeq DLNA Media Share application powered by iMediaShare technology.
Bezeq received a turnkey solution with the project lasting two months from inception to delivery, a smooth integration and Bianor responsible for the complete operation of the service. Shortly after it was launched, it resulted in Bezeq reaching approximately 40% of target. Bezeq will be adding new local content with time, which should see their results improving even further.
What is a Connected Home
The term ‘connected home‘ has been around for quite some time but what does it actually mean? It draws roots from the more familiar home automation idea. The connected home knows where you are, what you are doing and is able to predict what you need. Imagine interactive lighting control with lights following you and switching off behind you.
Imagine intelligent thermostat control with an energy-saving aspect, maintaining just the temperature you want in every room, and cooling the entire house when empty. Imagine your bathroom sending vital information about your health to your GP. Imagine your fridge adding milk to your electronic shopping list. Imagine your favourite music and entertainment programs playing at preferred times in preferred rooms.
